MATH 101-01-02: Course Goals
Instructor: Misha
Shvartsman
General Goals:
1. Gaining
factual knowledge (terminology and methods)
2. Learning
to apply course material (problem solving)
Subject Goals:
1. Cultivate a positive mathematical mindset by
building a strong foundation of mathematics.
All of us come from different mathematical backgrounds and
together we will complete activities
and assignments to strength our knowledge and gain confidence
in mathematics.
2. Gain factual knowledge of finite mathematics that
is critical for further study of mathematics,
economics, business, statistics, and accounting. To achieve
this, we will study financial mathematics
and we will also study probability, statistics, normal and
binomial distributions.
3. Learn fundamental principles and theories of finite
mathematics. To achieve this, we will study
linear equations and functions. In addition, we will study
counting techniques and calculate probabilities
for various situations.
4. Learn to apply finite mathematics to improve
thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
To achieve this, we will learn how to use matrices to organize
and easily interpret data. We will learn
techniques to make wise decisions by maximizing or minimizing
quantities which are important
in good business practices.
