Safety guidelines for UST EE labs:
- Always be safe. Live it.
- Learn from Ma Bell:
No job is so important and no service is so urgent that we cannot take time to perform our work safely
- When working with electricity:
- Buddy system
- De-energize (turning off and unplugging are not always enough!)
- Safety gear (insulating shoes, gloves, clothing, skin... Wait, really? Skin? Sorta, but not really.)
- Tools
- Breakers & GFCIs
- Design and work on line level voltages and significant energy storage devices requires oversight and/or approval of appropriate faculty/staff
Specific scenarios that require a consult with EE Lab Manager: Special parameters need to be followed for safe use and connection of of high power or high energy electrical sources and connections.
- Wiring line-voltage connections for AC power of 110v or more
- Large batteries
- Car/motorcycle batteries
- LiPo batteries of any type or size
- Large capacitors
- Any wiring/connection accessories for the items above
