Safety

Safety guidelines for UST EE labs:

  • Always be safe. Live it.

  • Learn from Ma Bell:
No job is so important and no service is so urgent that we cannot take time to perform our work safely

  • When working with electricity:
    • Buddy system
    • De-energize (turning off and unplugging are not always enough!)
    • Safety gear (insulating shoes, gloves, clothing, skin... Wait, really? Skin? Sorta, but not really.)
    • Tools
    • Breakers & GFCIs
    • Design and work on line level voltages and significant energy storage devices requires oversight and/or approval of appropriate faculty/staff

Specific scenarios that require a consult with EE Lab Manager: Special parameters need to be followed for safe use and connection of of high power or high energy electrical sources and connections.

  • Wiring line-voltage connections for AC power of 110v or more
  • Large batteries
    • Car/motorcycle batteries
    • LiPo batteries of any type or size
    • Large capacitors
  • Any wiring/connection accessories for the items above
